How to Become a Member of a Truly Remarkable Group of Men and Women:
The Kiwanis Club of
Joliet
meets every Monday at noon at the Joliet Junior College Renaissance Center,
214 N. Ottawa St., Joliet
. The club was organized and chartered
in 1920 and remains one of the oldest in Kiwanis International.
The Kiwanis slogan is “Saving the Children of the World”.
Most
Joliet
club projects are work and funding related to the enhancement of the young people
of our community.
When your schedule allows,
please come down to check out a meeting which usually last no more than an hour.
The meeting starts with an informal lunch of around 30 minutes. Guests of the club
eat for free, members pay $8. During this time, the prospective member gets introduced
to Kiwanis members and will get a feel for our members and our organization.
After the meal, the club
program will begin. This usually consists of announcements and
open discussion on what projects/charities/endeavors the club is
working on. There will be introduction of guests, and shortly thereafter the club
will hear a presentation from a guest speaker. From
Joliet Junior College
musical groups to the former director of correspondence for the President George
W. Bush, there always seems to be an interesting and informative guest speaker at
each and every meeting.
Should you decide to go
ahead and become a member, you will complete an application for membership which
will be acted upon by the Board of Directors. Approved members receive an “educational
session” to learn what the Kiwanis Club is about -- it’s mission, objectives and
purpose. Once you finish the “education” and have paid the annual dues of $125,
you are ready to be a full-fledged member of Kiwanis!
The Kiwanis Club requires
as much or as little time commitment that you can make each and every week. Our
club has a very convenient meeting time at a central location. Volunteer events
and club activities are almost always scheduled around the weekend and do not take
more than a few hours.
If you would like more information
on how to become a member, please be sure to email Ralph Sherman, the membership
director, at Rsher1312@aol.com. We hope to see you at one of our meetings!
