Serving the
Children
of the World
TM

A child’s potential is limitless, but it needs to be nurtured. Since 1915, Kiwanis International has provided the framework to bring volunteers and children together, with thousands of hours given each year working one-on-one with children all over the world. Teaching them to read. Involving them in service projects. Showing them how to build stronger communities. Grassroots involvement on every continent. Because every child has the potential to shine.

The six permanent Objects of Kiwanis International were approved by Kiwanis club delegates at the 1924 Convention in Denver, Colorado. Through the succeeding decades, they have remained unchanged.
  1. To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life.
  2. To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
  3. To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.
  4. To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.
  5. To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

Guided by six permanent Objects, Kiwanis clubs view their role within their respective communities with a great deal of foresight. Key aspects to operating an effective club include:

  • Evaluating both children’s issues and community needs on an ongoing basis
  • Conducting service projects to respond to those identified needs
  • Maintaining an active membership roster of professional business people who have both the desire and the ability to serve their community.

About Us Information

The Kiwanis Club of Joliet was formed in 1920. We are one of the largest clubs in Will County with over 70 registered members. The Kiwanis Club meets every Monday at the Renaissance Center at Joliet Junior College ’s downtown campus for lunch. We discuss the business of continuing to further Kiwanis International’s goal of helping serve the children of the world.

The Kiwanis Club participates in a number of service projects throughout the year. One major project is volunteering at the annual Easter Seal’s Telethon at the Empress Casino each spring. We volunteer to staff the phones each spring! Additionally, Kiwanians volunteer as ushers for the Concerts in the Park series at the Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park in downtown Joliet each summer.

In years past, we’ve donated time at the Lambs Fold Women’s Shelter sorting clothes for needy families, landscaped at Trinity House and funded the medical clinic at Guardian Angel Home . Our club also makes ongoing financial contributions to Joliet Charities.

Joliet Kiwanians also work hard to make sure the club is well-funded throughout the year. Our main fundraiser is the Kiwanis Club of Joliet ’s annual “Variety Show” performed each spring at the Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park . The club recruits local talent and produces an old-fashioned theater show for local residents. Funds are generated through ticket sales.

We also work hard to ensure the future of Kiwanis. Kiwanis Club of Joliet sponsors three “Key Clubs” at local high schools. Students at Joliet Central High School , Joliet West and Joliet Catholic Academy learn about Kiwanis International, hard work and community service while being guided by a faculty member. The club also sponsors “Builders Clubs” at the junior high level to instill in young adults the values of Kiwanis. The Builders Clubs are located at Hufford and Dirksen middle schools in Joliet .

Two of our club members also work closely with the Aktion Club, Kiwanis International’s service club for developmentally disabled adults.
